I was pretty excited to touch down in Perth the other day and get my long awaited dose of West Coast sunshine. (Melbourne, I love you, but this whole 2-degree-thing really isn’t fun)

In addition to seeking out some much need vitamin D, there were also a few cafes that were on my hit list. Two of these were newbies that I’ve never been to before, and two of them were tried and true favourites that I hit up all the time.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I had.

Let’s start with the newbies…

1. Flora and Fauna – Northbridge

Chia protein bowl

This place is ridiculously cute. It’s a small space in Northbridge, tucked away down a laneway. They do beautiful slices and other sweet treats, and all of their main dishes have a floral, colourful flare to them.

The cafe has plenty of outside seating but less space indoors – so possibly not the best brunch location if the weather is a bit dicey.

I had the chia protein bowl – a great option if you want something light and fruity.

2. The Coin Laundry – North Perth

Pumpkin smash

This cafe is a newbie on the Perth scene. It’s located a couple of doors down from one of my favourite coffee and cake haunts – Fiorentina.

I ordered the pumpkin smash and it was delish, but I was SERIOUSLY tempted by their salted caramel jelly pop tart breakfast dish (what will they think of next?!).

The old favourites…

3. Piccolo’s Corner – Leederville

Avocado smash

I LOVE the avocado smash at Piccolo’s.

The cafe itself is one of my absolute favourite breakfast spots in Perth and the outdoor section is the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee in the winter sunshine.

4. The Cool Room – Fremantle

Haloumi bruschetta

This place is a tucked away gem. It’s quirky looking and located just behind the netball courts on Leach Hwy – in the more suburban part of Fremantle.

Their portions are generous and this haloumi bruschetta is heaven on a plate.
