Howling’s Bar is a newbie to the Perth bar scene. In addition to producing a mean espresso martini, they also have a coffee window (The Dispensary) where you can get coffee and a brekkie-on-the-run during the week. I asked the boys behind Howling’s and The Dispensary to give us the lowdown on their latest venture x

  1. Please tell us a bit about Howling’s Bar.

Howling’s Bar opened on the 18th of March this year, although the concept has been in development for a couple of years. The bar has an art deco theme to it, and the interior has a suave, crisp feel. The drinks list is expansive and caters to all, whether you’re into your beer, wine, whiskey, gin, whatever! The great selection of drinks is coupled with a wide range of bar food, as well as a full a la carte menu and great service.

  1. Please tell us a bit about The Dispensary.

The Dispensary is an offshoot from the bar that serves patrons out of a customised window onto Hay Street and our alfresco area. It specializes in coffee, using Loaded Craft coffee and only Bannister Downs milk (all the coffee lovers out there will know what I am talking about when I say Bannister Downs milk!). It has different operating hours to the bar, running from 6am to 2pm weekdays and also offers an assortment of quick and tasty brekkie items.

  1. Please tell us about the food/drink menu at Howling’s.

The food menu was developed largely by Stephen “Bobby” Thomas, our head chef, who has cooked in places all over the world (Belgium, France and Mexico to name a few!) and brings his own flair to the bar. We try to source produce as locally as possible with some featured items from interstate and overseas. The menu will be seasonal and change every 4 months.

      4. What’s your favourite dish on the menu?

The cheesy chorizo arancini with tomato salsa is a stand out, great for a bar snack and for sharing. The chef’s housemade beef jerky has also been getting rave reviews! People can’t get enough!

  1. Any upcoming events or developments in the works that people should look out for?

There are a few things coming up- you’ll have to watch us on social media as well as on our website to keep up to date. As a bit of a hint we’ve got a Gatsby themed night in the works and some feature evenings with some partner groups (Mode and Affaire Clothing is one!) and a few food and drink pairing nights too. Keep your ears to the ground!

p.s. Howling’s has free, high speed wifi (yippeeee!!) and have lots of tech savvy ideas in the works!
